International Women’s Day 2025

(Supreme Teacher Appreciation Ceremony)

In conjunction with Women’s Day 2025, and with the aim of paying tribute to the preschool teachers who are the second mothers to the nation’s young children across the island, and who strive to build the nation by dedicating their time, effort, and energy, the Western Provincial Pre-Schools, the Central Provincial Early Childhood Development Unit, and the South Asia International Organization for Early Childhood Care and Development jointly organized a cultural festival called Utthama Guru Abhinandana Pooja. This event is designed to recognize and pay tribute to early childhood development teachers. It will take place on March 8, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Western Provincial Council Main Auditorium, located on Denzil Kobbekaduwa Mawatha, Battaramulla, Colombo.

The ceremony, held under the patronage of the Governor of the Western Province, Mr. Hanif Yusuf, was attended by the Secretary to the Governor, Mr. K. K. G. I. D. P. Wijethilaka, the Secretary to the Ministry of Education of the Western Province, Mrs. Nishanthi Jayasinghe, the Director of Preschools of the Western Province, Mr. Dushmantha Rajapaksa, the Provincial Director of the Central Province Early Childhood Development Unit, Mr. T. K. Ghunathilaka, the Former Managing Director of the North Central Early Childhood Development Authority, Mr. Nilantha Ekanayake, as well as development officers from the provinces. Nearly 350 preschool teachers, representing five provinces across the island, participated in the event.

The event was graced with colorful cultural performances by early childhood development teachers who showcased exceptional talents in singing, playing musical instruments, and dancing.

At this nation-building event, Utthama Guru Abhinandana Pooja, early childhood development  teachers  were awarded medals of honor for their outstanding academic leadership in the field of early childhood development. Teachers who demonstrated exceptional skills in STEAM education and outstanding abilities in early childhood development, utilizing modern 21st-century learning and teaching methods, were also recognized.
